Salary: £66,000 – £73,000 + 10% performance bonus

Working location: Milton Keynes / Hybrid

Job summary:

 

Provide technical support to NHBC Claims handlers across a wide range of Technical, engineering and building surveying orientated disciplines, and advise on technical issues relating to defective residential buildings, including high-rise, to ensure that appropriate advice is given to allow efficient and accurate claims handling outcomes. Undertake defect diagnosis, set investigation strategy, and critique and advise on remedial solutions prepared by others.

 

What you’ll be doing

 

Working in the Claims Technical Surveying team, you will provide technical support to colleagues primarily within, but not limited to, the Complex and Technical Claims teams dealing with technically complex and/or high value claims, to ensure that defects are accurately investigated and diagnosed, and repairs are appropriately specified. Specific tasks include:

 

  • Defect Analysis – Review technical reports, determine compliance with regulations, and advise on investigative approaches
  • Causation & Resolution – Identify causes of defects and develop strategies for effective remediation
  • Project Management – Oversee remedial works, ensuring proper specifications, cost efficiency, and regulatory compliance
  • Consultation & Oversight – Instruct and monitor external consultants, liaise with claimants and builders, and ensure technical credibility
  • Training & Development – Support colleagues, contribute to policy guidance, and enhance NHBC’s technical risk management

Site visits may be required occasionally to investigate defects and oversee remedial schemes.

Responsibilities

What we’re looking for

  • Building Design & Methods – Experience across various sectors, with knowledge of traditional and modern construction techniques
  • Regulatory Knowledge – Familiarity with British Standards, NHBC Standards, Building Regulations, and compliance decision-making
  • Project Management – Leading remediation projects, ensuring cost efficiency and contractual arrangements
  • Defect Analysis & Technical Assessment – Investigating defects, determining causation, and advising on solutions
  • Communication & Teamwork – Strong verbal and written skills, ability to summarise complex information concisely, and collaborate effectively
  • Technical & IT Proficiency – Use of industry software, formal reporting, and strategic analysis
  • Professional Development – Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work independently
