Job summary:

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Building Surveyor / Senior Surveyor to join our dynamic, multi-disciplinary team. You will use your technical expertise and understanding of NHBC Standards and Building Regulations to deliver an efficient, high-quality service in line with Service Level Agreements and Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring NHBC, customer and statutory requirements are met.

Interested in becoming a Registered Building Inspector:

NHBC welcomes individuals interested in becoming or at the early stages of their applications to become a Registered Building Inspector (all classes) and will provide the necessary training and funding, supported by our dedicated professional team for the Building Safety Regulator framework.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll play a key role in managing building control and warranty risks, ensuring compliance with NHBC Standards, Building Regulations, and service level requirements. Working closely with developers and colleagues, you’ll help deliver safe, high-quality buildings from design through to completion.

  • Act as a Registered Building Inspector, applying professional standards and codes in line with your registration.

  • Assess building regulation and warranty applications for residential and associated non-residential developments.

  • Provide expert advice on complex or restricted functions to NHBC Building Control Services Ltd.

  • Supervise and support inspectors of lower classification where required.

  • Coordinate inspections, certifications, and approvals, ensuring issues are identified and resolved efficiently.

  • Liaise and negotiate with builders, developers, and consultants to achieve compliance and uphold NHBC Standards.

  • Support inspection teams with technical guidance on high-risk or complex elements.

  • Promote NHBC’s objectives, contribute to business improvements, and help drive operational efficiency.

  • Mentor, coach, and assist in the training and development of colleagues.

  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, and quality requirements at all times.



What we’re looking for

  • Preferably Class Registered as a Registered Building Inspector, all levels considered.

  • Experienced with structural defects and related claims, NHBC Standards, and site inspection would also be a benefit.

  • An understanding of building pathology and experienced in the field of Building Control.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information to internal/external audiences.

  • A full Driving licence is required for this role.

  • You will already have or working towards, a construction-related qualifications such as City and Guilds, HNC, HND, or NVQ (or equivalent).

  • Professional chartered membership or working toward i.e. MCIOB, CABE, or similar.

  • Some experience of building control plan assessment essential.
