Principal Technical Specialist

Salary: ££55,000 – £62,500 10% performance bonus, plus regional allowance

Working location: Homebased

Employment type: full time, permanent

 

Job summary:

We're looking for a Principal Technical Specialist to join our team. In this role, you'll be the technical lead, supporting and guiding multi-disciplinary specialist teams to ensure compliance with NHBC Standards. You'll provide expert advice and technical support in areas like facade design, facade specialisation, and high-rise construction standards.

 

What you’ll be doing

  • Provide expertise to support the maintenance and development of NHBC’s Technical Risk Management Policy.
  • Advise and to have knowledge of facade design, façade specialism and high-rise construction standards.
  • Working with complex building projects, experience managing technical risks in complex building environments, including mixed-use developments and unique architectural designs.
  • Review, develop, publish and maintain NHBC Standards and Technical Policy for new and newly converted homes within areas of specialism to ensure NHBC’s technical position with respect to various construction methods is defined.
  • Develop and publish internal and external technical information guidance and communications in support of the consistent interpretation of Standards and Building Regulatory requirements.

 

What we’re looking for

 

  • You will have expert knowledge in the subject of building facades, compliance and advisory.
  • Sound and appropriate levels of technical knowledge to enable sufficient understanding of customer needs and requirements.
  • Good written, interpersonal and oral communication skills, tact and diplomacy and be self-motivated.
  • The ability to interpret and analyse complex data and convey complex technical information clearly.
  • Confident and experienced presenter with experience of large audiences (100+ people).
  • Competent user of MS Office suite of software
  • Full driving licence, time to time frequent travel and away from home.
  • Chartered membership of an appropriate professional body/institution, e.g. CABE, FCABE, MCIOB, RICS etc.
  • Desirable to have a construction-related Degree or Diploma.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a Principal Technical Specialist, "who has knowledge and experience in working with complex external envelopes on major projects” to join our team of Technical Specialists. In this role, you will deliver robust NHBC Standards and provide expert guidance and technical policy support working internal and with our external stakeholders and customers

What you’ll be doing

Act as a technical lead within a team of specialists, delivering robust NHBC Standards and offering guidance and technical policy in specific areas of construction expertise. This role ensures that effective operational risk management on-site can be implemented by others within NHBC.

 

Responsibilities extend to:

 

  • Provide expert knowledge working with complex external envelopes on major projects.
  • Provide expertise to support the maintenance and development of NHBC’s Technical Risk Management Policy.
  • Advise and to have knowledge of facade design, façade specialism and high-rise construction standards.
  • Working with complex building projects, experience managing technical risks in complex building environments, including mixed-use developments and unique architectural designs.
  • Review, develop, publish and maintain NHBC Standards and Technical Policy for new and newly converted homes within areas of specialism to ensure NHBC’s technical position with respect to various construction methods is defined.
  • Develop and publish internal and external technical information guidance and communications in support of the consistent interpretation of Standards and Building Regulatory requirements.
  • Assist the Technical and Standards Manager in the review and development of technical guidance, by sampling and auditing technical guidance produced by Senior Technical and Technical Specialists.
  • Take ownership and lead the development of allocated sections of the NHBC Standards or Regulatory Requirements for new and newly converted homes.

 

The ideal candidate will have

  • Experience and knowledge of working with complex external envelopes on major projects.
  • Knowledge and experience of technical research gained through working with a research body or achievement of a research based second degree.
  • Advantage to have a background and knowledge of within Building Control, complex building projects and building facades experience.
  • Sound and appropriate levels of technical knowledge to enable sufficient understanding of customer needs and requirements.
  • Focussed specialist skills such as structural engineering, Building Regulations or Warranty Standards.
  • Have expert technical knowledge and experience house building/construction, NHBC standards, Building Regulations, procedures and structure.
  • Good written, interpersonal and oral communication skills, tact and diplomacy and be self-motivated.
  • The ability to interpret and analyse complex data and convey complex technical information clearly.
  • Confident and experienced presenter with experience of large audiences (100+ people).
  • Competent user of MS Office suite of software
